On a small Danish island⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀there is a simple gazebo built right by the coastline against the backdrop of an open meadow landscape. The house is made of natural stone with a pitched roof inspired by nature, located on a small basement, acting as coastal protection from severe storms and high water levels.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The local practice GinnerupArkitekter designed a stone-faced house on a concrete basement on the coast of a small island in Denmark
The thin concrete basement of the house was designed to protect the building from flooding during severe storms and serves as a terrace at the same time.

To imitate the large stones and pebbles of the nearby beach, the entire facade was lined with stone, and small stones were also included in the base.
⠀⠀The facades are also finished with natural stone, which is in harmony with the large stones on the beach next to the house. Similarly, monolithic concrete pedestals consist of small stones that mimic the rough pebbles and shade of the beach. A house that does not interfere, but proudly adapts and repeats the motives of nature and protects from wind and bad weather. The facade is designed with large glass sections that make the corners open and transparent, thereby providing lightness to a durable appearance.

⠀⠀The house is in harmony with nature. A small summer house with an area of 55 m2 stands proudly above the natural area in the form of a clearly defined stone block, designed with a simple layout. When viewed from the gables, the house looks like a square with a triangle inscribed in the shape of a pitched roof made of natural slate tiles. Despite the apparent simplicity of the design of the house, there are many details in it that make this simplicity elusive.
⠀⠀⠀"Nature is constantly present in the form of large glass sections, from the moment the owners wake up at dawn until they go to bed with a sunset view," the studio said.
"Smoky oak together with a warm floor made of natural stone enhance the feeling of tactility, clean materials in contrast to the light and white interior," the practice said.
⠀⠀⠀Inside, the summer house is divided into two zones under a high pointed ceiling, with a living room, kitchen and bathroom at one end and a bedroom at the other
⠀⠀⠀A glass wall in the center of the house separates these two ends, providing access to daylight in any space during the day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀In interior decoration, preference is also given to simple natural materials: Ilan limestone floors are everywhere, and smoked oak is used for kitchen joinery against the background of simple white walls.
"Thanks to the glass corner, there is a divided view of the meadow and the sea, so that during the day you can observe the rich life of birds and animals, as well as ships at sea," he continued.

Large sections of glazing cover every corner of the house, and sliding glass doors provide access to the concrete basement from both the living room and the bedroom.
